Urban preparedness concept representing readiness for unexpected crises

What the Minnesota ICE Shooting Reveals About Personal Preparedness

Here at MIRA Safety, we take the individual American families' safety and preparedness as our own. It is the heart that led us to start this company and it is the heart that will drive us to the end. We suggest nothing for your own family that we would not do with our own. Consequently, we have to address the recent shooting of an individual by ICE that has been circulating social media for the past several days. We don’t take sides and we don’t do politics. We do safety and nothing else. If two human beings out of the 8 billion on planet Earth have the ability to set the country ablaze, we need to be prepared at all times. There was a person who you never met that fired the weapon and a person who you never met that received the rounds. That’s all it takes for this nation to come apart at the seams. Your responsibility is to have your family ready when it happens. Let’s talk about how you prepare for what most families think is unimaginable.

Keeping Family Safe in a World Gone Mad

If you look back at the biggest civil unrest moments in the past 40 years, they all centered around an individual encounter. Whether that was the LA riots of the 90’s or the more recent riots of the past decade, all it takes is for an individual interpersonal interaction to go viral to upset the entire social order. Regardless of what you feel about these events, we all have the natural instinct to protect family.

The only reasonable course of action to prepare your family for the moment two individuals out of 8 billion on the planet decide to set the world ablaze is to stay ready at all times. There is no exception to personal preparedness and zero exemptions for the consequences of failing to be ready. Your family is ready for this moment or they are not. We plead for your family to be ready for the moment most people dread because that is what we choose for our own.

The Role of a Gas Mask During Civil Unrest

Chemical warfare has gone mainstream and one needs only to witness the mass use of teargas as evidence. There is no scenario where civil unrest occurs where the use of gas will be absent. Despite this certainty, it is remarkable that many continue to label the notion of owning a gas mask as “extreme”.

Those who scoff at the idea fail to understand the difference between probability and possibility. You don’t have homeowners insurance because the likelihood of a house fire is high. It’s actually remarkably rare and the probability is low. Rather, you have homeowners insurance because a fire is possible. What you stand to lose in a house fire is too much and you pay accordingly.

What you stand to lose in a season of civil unrest is too much. The price is too high and you prepare accordingly. Being able to breathe clean air when most cannot is worth its weight in gold. It doesn’t matter what side of a political issue you are on, being able to navigate through the inevitable response is what matters most to your family. Gas will be used, can your family make it through to the end?

Political Violence Gets Worse Before It Gets Better

You may very well feel that the ICE shooting in Minnesota has left you unscathed. Unfortunately, political violence gets worse before it gets better. Political violence begets a cycle of violence that is not satisfied until exhausted. It may not happen today and it may not happen tomorrow, but the next cycle in this chain of violence is inevitable.

The delay gives you an opportunity to prepare if you have not done so already. You are squarely responsible for your family’s security. No one is going to save the day if you don’t take action. This means picking up a gas mask and 2 filters for yourself and your entire family.

One of the greatest epiphanies we had as an organization was the realization that we were making masks for adults and nothing for kids. What a horrible feeling it would be for a parent to breathe clean air only to watch their children suffocate. Once we saw this vision, we couldn’t unsee it. Children’s gas masks are not novelties. It is life saving equipment that we provide to our own children.

Prepare Your Family for the 2026 Midterms Now

Even if you aren't from the State of Minnesota right now, there is still urgency needed regarding the upcoming 2026 midterms. Again, we don’t do politics here and so we’re not telling you which side should or will win. What we are telling you is to be prepared.

Passions are so inflamed in this nation at the moment that it makes the losing party shaking hands after a loss an impossibility. Even if the politicians themselves keep it civil, the public will be out for blood. If you live in an urban environment you have even more reason to rear the outcome.

It may very well be your obligation to exit the city and head for the hills until the unrest subsides. In order to exit safely, you’re going to want to have a gas mask on hand. Your ability to move while others are immobilized by the gas can provide you with the precious seconds you need to get the heck out of town. We wouldn’t want to be anywhere near a major U.S. city in November. Plan now and stay safe when it matters most.

Personal Protective Equipment for When the Untrained Start Shooting

What the ICE shooting also demonstrates to us is that individuals who are not tactically trained are starting to find themselves in tactical scenarios. Some of these people have never so much as held a gun but are lining up to protest and disrupt fully trained law enforcement personnel. One cannot expect to make good tactical decisions when nothing about your life has prepared you for that moment.

Many think that they will rise to the occasion in such moments and play the hero. However, you will not rise to the occasion. Rather, you will fall to the highest level of your training and preparedness. When the untrained start wielding firearms, the world becomes an even more dangerous place.

The untrained are not keeping their finger straight and off the trigger until they are ready to fire. The untrained are not aware of their target and what is behind it. When people start reaching for a gun for the first time during civil unrest those people will be a liability. Tactical Body Armor that can be worn under clothing at all times during such a crisis can protect you from their ignorance.

The Next Crisis is One Personal Interaction Away

As we start to wrap up this article, we want to again emphasize that we are not playing politics with the ICE shooting in Minnesota. Anytime there is a loss of life it is a tragedy. As a company dedicated to personal safety, we just feel an obligation to educate the public about the realities we are facing in 2026.

All it takes is for two individuals of any political persuasion to set the world on fire. You can’t control every law enforcement officer out there. You can’t control every protestor looking to make a statement. You can take charge of your family’s personal safety. You can prepare them for the day that most people dread.

Today it was Minnesota and tomorrow it may be in your home state. Will you be ready? Are you preparing for the November midterms with the mindset that the losing party is not going to walk away peacefully? Do you have a safe location where you can exit the big city and ride out the storm? If you never purchased a single product from us we would still be pleading with tears in our eyes for you to have a plan.

MIRA Safety and a Man on a Mission

If you ever get a chance to speak to our founder, Roman, you’ll pick up quickly that he is deadly serious about the personal safety of the average American family. It is a calling of faith that guides the work we do here at MIRA Safety. Sure it's a product and a business, but first and foremost it is a mission. We’d love to avoid controversial topics like the ICE shooting in Minnesota, but our mission compels us to act.

It is for mission’s sake that we point out all the threats and flashpoints the new year has in store for us. Politics has become tribal and tribal human beings are capable of terrible violence. Have a plan. Practice plan often and be sure every member of your family knows the plan forwards and backwards. Invest now in the right equipment to keep your family safe and stay ready. This is the mission that drives us every single day and regardless of what 2026 has prepared, we’re going to be one step ahead. Keep training friends and stay ready.
