When the founding fathers penned the Declaration of Independence, they knew very well the risks associated with such a world altering document. The United States was not a superpower at the time and the risk of losing to the British empire was real. Yet, as the musical Hamiliton famously put to music, they were more than willing to turn the world upside down. So it is with the Iranians currently protesting their government. The number of dead are piling up and the geopolitical consequences of success are vast and poorly understood. Yet, they are willing to turn the world upside down as freedom is its prize and the juice of freedom is always worth the squeeze. Given that Tehran is over 6,000 miles from the U.S. east coast, let’s talk about what the average American family can do to prepare for the fallout. Study the Iran Protests with the United States of America in Mind

The first thing any good prepper should do is study the civil unrest in Iran with the U.S. in mind. Namely, what do governments do to repress populist movements and what violence do they all turn to in the end. At first, every mass movement is allowed some momentum so as to allow people some avenue to vent frustration. Unrest has been percolating in Iran for the past decade, but the year 2025 saw it start to boil over.
Farmers began to protect, then bakers, truckers and more over the cost of living and poor Iranian economy. However, all protests reach a point where the government realizes they have let it go too far. They hoped people would tire out and lose interest, but when it sticks, it sticks. Enter 2026 and the Iranian people are at a boiling point.
What began as economic grievances has erupted into outright demands for freedom. This is when the government gets violent. Crowd control and the deployment of chemical munitions becomes the norm. When that is not enough they begin to cut off communication. Internet blackouts and cell phone communications are the first to go. Finally, when the government of the few begins to feel the palpable presence of the many, they start shooting. Sooner or later, oppressive governments always begin shooting. Regardless of where you are in the world, study the timeline and apply it to your own country accordingly.
Have a Plan to Navigate Each Phase of Civil Unrest

Once you’ve studied the timeline, the goal now is to come up with a plan for each phase of unrest. The first phase is almost always complacency. “Oh, it’s just another protest. It will pass.” The next phase is to acknowledge things are getting serious and maybe you should stay at home today. Finally, you recognize that this is a big deal and the personal safety of your family is in peril. That is, it is in peril if you have not prepared accordingly prior to the first phase of civil unrest.
Amazon does a great job of delivering packages, but they are not so stellar in meeting their 2-day Prime deadline in a riot. The same is true for UPS, FedEX, or any other shipping company where you may have survival equipment delivered. If you don’t have your supplies on hand before the first phase, then it is too late.
Not to mention the fact that the Iranian regime has cut off the internet to the entire nation. Even Musk’s Starlink is having a rough go of it in Iran. You have to be prepared ahead of the crisis. With each phase of escalation, acquiring the vital supplies necessary to outlast the crisis becomes more difficult. You don’t have to put on your gas mask and body armor when the protests start. However, you do need to have it on hand.
Anticipating the Geopolitical Fallout of the Iranian Street Protests

Next let’s cover the geopolitical fallout and we’ll be honest by stating that no human on the planet fully knows the consequences. After a 4 year war in Ukraine, Russia is running fresh out of allies on the global stage. Assad in Syria has fallen and Trump recently apprehended Putin’s best friend in South America, Maduro.
The fall of the Iranian regime is consequential for the Russian state and that makes the Russian state a threat to react. Israel and the United States recently spent countless amounts of ordinance to reduce the nuclear threat in Iran, but none seem to know what a new regime in Iran would bring. The Taliban are, unfortunately, back in charge of Afghanistan and we don’t know how a new Iranian regime would interact.
Geopolitical stability is at an all-time high over the past 50 years and preparation for the threats you can imagine is key, but preparing for the threats you can’t imagine is survival. We don’t know what Iranian proxies will do around the world. We don’t know how Russia will lash out as the last remnants of its global power subside. We don’t know what happens if the Iranian government is successful and brutally suppresses the protests. Stay ready and prepare for the day that most people dread is the only reasonable plan.
Prioritize Air, Water, Food, and the Ability to Fight
You can survive a month or so without food, a few days without water, and a few minutes without air. Prioritize accordingly. The Iranian regime is far from having the ability to starve its citizens through this crisis. It is not likely that they can cut off water in any substantial amount in order to end the protests. Air, however, is something they can go for in minutes. Violence is already their methodology.

We’re already seeing it in the streets of Minnesota as we speak. Tear Gas, mace, and bear spray are being deployed without hesitation. A modern gas mask costs less than the price of a firearm and is more likely to be used during civil unrest. We don’t recommend that you keep your family safe by shooting it out with the cops. We do recommend owning a gas mask so you can safely navigate your family through a riot.
It doesn’t matter which side of the issue that you are on. You still need to be able to breathe in order to make your way to safety. Food and water will help you ride out the storm for the long haul and, yes, guns will save the day when the desperate come for your food and water. However, a gas mask is what you need to make it to safe harbor. All the ammunition in the world is of no use to you if you can’t reach it. The priority is air, water, and food in that order.
The Iranian Fight for Freedom is a Righteous Fight

Finally, a quick word about the cause itself. We don’t do politics here, but we are decidedly on the side of freedom. The right life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are gifts endowed to us by our creator. All human beings have them, but what most like a government willing to protect those rights. The Iranian people are merely trying to reclaim their natural rights. Meanwhile, the Iranian regime is committing mass atrocities to deny those rights.
It is no coincidence that the government is quick to shoot given the fact that gun ownership is denied and heavily regulated in Iran. This is a key fact that we hope all Americans observe. A government cannot oppress prepared people. Tear gas will not suppress those with a gas mask. Bullets will not stop those wearing modern body armor. You cannot starve people into submission when they have stocked up on food and water.
For far too many years, prepping has been viewed by many as a fringe hobby. Nothing could be further from the truth. History is clear that liberty is rare and oppression is the norm when it comes to a government and its people. We changed that for ourselves back in 1776 and the Iranian people are trying to do so now.
Prepare Now for the Day Most People Dread

Most people cannot fathom a world where the government is not there to save them. The fear of such a day often paralyzes them into inaction because they don’t want to face that reality. They don’t buy a gas mask for their child because the thought of putting one on them means that day has come. Please don’t be that family. Do not be the patriarch or matriarch of the unprepared.
If the team here at MIRA can be of any help to you or answer any question, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
