40mm NATO Gas Mask Filters
A gas mask is only as capable as the filter attached to it. Filters do the actual work of stopping airborne contaminants, whether the threat is sarin gas, wildfire smoke, agricultural pesticide, biological aerosol, or radioactive iodine. Every filter in this collection uses the 40mm NATO thread (EN 148-1, Rd 40 x 1/7"), the international standard for full-face respirators, which means any cartridge here works with MIRA Safety®'s full gas mask lineup, as well as our children's gas masks. One filter standard, one inventory, every mask in the home.
Filters are not interchangeable in capability. Each cartridge is engineered for a specific class of threats, and choosing the right one is a function of the scenario you are preparing for: full-spectrum CBRN protection, structural-fire and carbon monoxide escape, crowd-control agents like CS tear gas and OC pepper spray, fine particulates and biological aerosols, or industrial and agricultural chemicals. MIRA Safety® filters are certified to EN 14387:2004+A1:2008 and EN 143:2000+A1:2006 standards, and ship with shelf lives up to 20 years for long-term storage.
How to Choose the Right Filter
For preppers building a baseline kit, a full-spectrum CBRN cartridge is the right starting point. CBRN filters carry the broadest threat coverage on the market, including chemical warfare agents and a DIN reactor element for radioactive methyl iodide encountered in nuclear emergencies. Households near industrial corridors, refineries, or rail lines should stock specialty cartridges matched to the most likely local hazard.
Particulate-only filters use ULPA-class media that exceeds HEPA and are the right pick when the threat is dust, mold, bacteria, or viral aerosols rather than gas or vapor. They do not stop chemical agents on their own. For complete ensembles, pair your masks with a chemical-resistant hazmat suit, and a prepacked PPE kit.
