CBRN Hazmat Suits and Protective Apparel
Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) hazmat suits are whole-body protective garments built to keep contaminants off skin, hair, and clothing during exposure to toxic vapors, aerosols, liquid splash, and radioactive particulates. An air-purifying respirator (APR) protects the airway, but blistering agents like mustard (HD) and lewisite penetrate skin on contact. Persistent nerve agents such as VX cling to surfaces for days, and fallout particles settle on any exposed fabric. A suit closes that gap.
A hazmat suit only works as part of a sealed ensemble. The garment pairs with a full-face mask from the CBRN gas masks lineup at the hood interface, with chemical-resistant gloves that are taped to the cuff, and with overboots sealed at the ankle. Seams, zipper closures, and tape lines are the points where vapor permeation and liquid wicking actually occur, so the integration matters as much as the fabric.
The MIRA Safety® lineup covers three working models. The HAZ-SUIT® is a hand-stitched coverall built for full ensemble work. The MOPP-1® Suit is a semipermeable garment with embedded activated carbon spheres, designed for sustained wear and 10 decon washes at 40°C. The M4 CBRN Military Poncho is a lightweight polyamide layer for splash and particulate cover over a base uniform.
Who Needs CBRN Protective Apparel
Hazmat response teams, fire-service technician squads, and hospital decontamination units wear protective apparel as standard issue during chemical spill response, train derailments involving chlorine or anhydrous ammonia, and patient decon after a contamination event. Industrial and petrochemical workers use it around reactive process lines, refinery upsets, and rail-corridor incidents.
Military and law-enforcement CBRN units carry protective garments for operations under threat of sarin, tabun, VX, soman, mustard, lewisite, chlorine, or phosgene release, as well as for radioactive particulate environments. Civilian preparedness households near nuclear power plants, large refineries, chemical-rail corridors, and fixed-site industrial hazards keep apparel on hand for shelter-in-place breakdowns and post-incident egress. The shared requirement across all of these users is the same: a barrier against vapor, aerosol, liquid splash, and radioactive dust that integrates with the rest of their CBRN kit.
Children deserve the same whole-body coverage adults have, and the lineup accommodates them. The HAZ-SUIT® ships in a dedicated youth size and fits children as young as 4, while the MOPP-1® comes in smaller cuts that fit older children and small-framed adults without sacrificing the carbon-sphere layer.
Building a Complete CBRN Ensemble
Pair a suit with a current-dated cartridge from the gas mask filters range, plus chemical-resistant gloves and overboots, to close the ensemble. Pre-built PPE kits bundle the major components for households starting from zero.
