The CM-6M Tactical Gas Mask has a facepiece of tough bromobutyl rubber (CBRN-compliant) for maximum resistance to TIC/CWA contaminants. The full-face respirator’s inner mask is made from a special hypoallergenic compound that ensures excellent tightness and avoids exhaled air contact with the visor to prevent fogging. It also reduces carbon dioxide(CO2) content in the mask’s inner space, which together with its favorable inhalation/exhalation breathing resistance, decreases the physiological burden for the user—providing more comfortable and practical all-day use.
The integrated speech diaphragm ensures at least 95% intelligibility of speech, allowing for easy communication with other members of your party. The mask is equipped with a five-point rubber-textile head harness to ensure a snug and lasting fit.
The CM-6M CBRN gas mask is produced in one size. To ensure proper functioning, the user’s face must be smooth, free of facial hair, sideburns and other hindrances at the points of contact.
The tactical gas mask is compatible with the 3M Safety 6878 Spectacle Kit (sold separately), with simple installation for those who are vision impaired and prefer not to wear contacts.
The filter is fitted to the mask by screwing to the left or right inhalation chamber. The unused chamber (without filter) is sealed with an inhalation chamber plug. It is necessary to ensure the plug is properly screwed and tightened.
Inhalation chambers of the CM-6 mask are ONLY compatible with Rd 40 x 1/7” thread in accordance with the EN 148-1 standard.
Selection of a suitable filter depends on the type and concentration of anticipated toxic agent. The CM-6 tactical mask equipped with a TIC or CWA filter is only safe for use in an environment containing at least 19.5% oxygen. The principles of filter selection and application are described in the filter user guides.
The CM-6 tactical gas mask may be used in class 1 explosive environments only. The CM-6 mask meets all of the requirements for class 3 of the EN 136 standard. It’s a great choice for riot gear or as a riot control gas mask.

The CM-6 tactical gas mask must be stored in a dark, cool and dust-free place free from sudden temperature changes. The storage room should be ventilated regularly. Temperatures may vary between 10°C and 25°C within relative humidity up to 65%. Full face gas masks must not be exposed to radiant heat or sunshine. Fuels, solvents, lubricants and other inflammable substances, including chemicals, must not be stored with masks. Moreover, there must not be any electrical machines or appliances that produce sparks or discharges during operation (ozone creation).
Avoid deformation of the rubber parts of the facepiece and internal CBRN gas mask during storage.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERSAsk a Question
I purchased the 3M 6878 Spectacle Kit for the CM-6M gas mask. I am wondering how you attach the frame holder into the mask. I get a general idea from the pics on your website, But I can\'t see how the top \"L\" bent piece sits in the mask. It looks like there is some type of mounting block inside the mask itself. Any help would be awesome!
The "L" piece goes underneath the rubber block, and it is held in place by the pressure that this knob puts on the metal bracket. The bottom of the spectacle kit lodges itself right above the oro-nasal cup.
Is it possible to shoot weapons when wearing your CM-6M Tactical Gas Mask, or is this only possible with the 7M Mask because of the design?
Considering the design of the visor on the CM-6M, it will be more difficult to get a good cheek weld (pressing your cheek on the stock to get a sight picture). If the sight is raised, thus requiring less of a weld, it would work better with the CM-6M. We do not recommend using magnified optics with the CM-6M as it would be harder to get eye relief (distance from the last surface of an eyepiece within which the user's eye can obtain the full viewing angle). The CM-6M and CM-7M are really different tools for different jobs. The CM-7M is superior for tactical applications, and the CM-6M is superior for everything else.
Do the mask and NBC-77 SOF filters that you can buy in the bundle both have a 20-year shelf life?
Yes, they do.
If you use it for Coronavirus, which model do you suggest? Do you need to change the filter each time if you go out with possible affected patients around?
All the masks on our website, so long as they are used per best practices and form a tight seal, would protect your breathing passages and eyes from viral threats. A filter cannot be regenerated in any way, and once used, it is considered toxic waste and must be disposed of. So to answer your question, yes, you would have to change the filter each time if it's exposed to a viral agent.
Do the CM-6M and CM-7M gas masks offer the same level of protection?
Yes, they do. The difference is in design, not the level of protection. Both are made from bromobutyl rubber that is resistant to CBRN agents, and both also have a speech diaphragm, drinking system, and come with a canteen.
How would you know if a gas mask fits your face?
You would have to perform a negative pressure test. To do this, you would put the mask on your face, take a deep breath out, cover the inhalation valve (make sure the opposite side has the 40mm cap in place), and take a deep breath. If the mask sucks tight to your face without leaking air, you know that this mask fits.
How long will a NBC-77 SOF filter protect in non-contaminated air against viruses?
As viruses travel in particles and liquid aerosols, this filter will protect you for as long as you can wear the mask (several days). Keep in mind; if you are in a contaminated environment, you would need to decontaminate properly before removing your protective gear, and then dispose of the filter as there is no way to regenerate it. Once the filter is used in a contaminated environment, it is considered toxic waste.
How long does a filter last once it's opened?
Filter use time depends on a few factors, including atmospheric conditions, contaminant type, concentration, along with your breathing rate. As a general rule of thumb, we would suggest having two filters per person per day for emergency evacuation purposes. If you'd like specific data on use time, you can look at the brochure that goes into breakthrough times along with the application.
Can this mask be attached to an oxygen tank?
No, it cannot. the oxygen tank you're referring to is called a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and requires a different connection port. This mask is, however, compatible with a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR). This is a device that blows continuous filtered air into your gas mask through positive pressure and lowers breathing resistance.
I have a narrow face. Are there different sizes available for the CM-6M gas mask?
Would that mask work fine with a short (1.5 cm) face-beard?
No, it will not. When you wear any gas mask, you should be clean-shaven. If you have a little stubble, you could try to use vaseline to get a better seal, but it is NOT guaranteed to function as intended. We suggest keeping a shaver in your kit to use in case you need to deploy the mask quickly.
What is the benefit of using two filters at the same time?
Two filters would lower the breathing resistance, at the expense of added weight. We suggest using one filter at a time for most purposes.
Does the CM-6M gas mask need two filters to function?
No, it does not. You can use one filter, or two filters at the same time. With one filter, the opposite side would be plugged.
What are the specs for the visor?
If you mean impact resistance, the CM-6M gas mask visor meets the EN 168 standard. We've also done additional testing by shooting the visor with less than lethal bean bag rounds (non-scientific setting), and the visor held up quite well. Click here for a video. Please keep in mind, this result is not guaranteed, and this is the first time we've tested with bean bag rounds. We will be doing some more testing later this year with varying distances, varying projectiles, etc.
Can this mask be worn for long haul flights of 5-8 hours without having problems breathing? How does ease of breathing compare to N-95 mask?
I would suggest using a gas mask to see how comfortable you are breathing through one before taking a flight while wearing it. Each person is different, and it all depends on your lung capacity and physiology. If you're going to wear this on a flight, I assume this is for blocking viral agents, and I suggest using two P3 filters simultaneously. Also, you can use this mask with a blower (PAPR unit), and then you can wear it for even longer as breathing resistance is drastically decreased.
After each use is it ok to use Clorox wipes to clean the mask off or should I use plain soap and warm water? Outstanding masks by the way. Thx
We do not recommend Clorox Wipes. You can use soap and water for general cleaning, or for an on-the-go solution, I would get Allegro Respirator Wipes. They work well for standard contaminants, along with bio/viral threats. For CBRN decontamination of highly toxic substances, you would have to refer to a specialist on the specific agent you are looking to neutralize.
I tried to order this gas mask. In the CM-6M advertisement it states that it comes with a hydration system. But at checkout it states thst this gas mask doesn't cone with the hydration system. Why is that?
The drinking system is optional. Next to the price, you can click on the "drinking system" drop-down, and select included.
Will it hold a seal if the user has a beard?
Gas masks are meant to be used with clean-shaven faces. We do not recommend wearing any gas mask with a beard. If you don't want to shave it right away, at least keep a beard trimmer in your kit in case of emergency.
Hello, I have a question about the CRBN status on the CM-6M and the CM-7M. It is true that the masks are not NIOSH approved? If so, how truly is the effectiveness of the level of protection such lethal threats?
CM-6M and 7M gas masks are approved under EN 136:1998 CL3 (special purpose). This is the European equivalent of NIOSH. Just FYI, NIOSH is only required for private sector use in the USA, as is mandated by OSHA. Government agencies are not subject to OSHA, and MIRA Safety gas masks are used by police departments, fire, and medic crews across the US. We are planning on going through NIOSH certification in the near future.
Does the face mask smell when you put it on?
There is a slight rubber smell, as with all gas masks. This smell dissipates over time, or with cleaning in warm soapy water.
Do the mask come with a leg and hip carrier?
No, it does not. The gas mask pouch is sold separately, but we do sell a survival kit that includes a gas mask (CM-7M or CM-6M), one NBC-77 SOF filter, Thyrosafe Tablets, and a gas mask pouch.
Are there (or will there at some point be) any options available for tinted outserts that can be attached over the outside of the visor on the CM-6M mask? Also, are there any CBRN rated hoods that will work with this mask? Thanks!
We will be releasing tinted and non-tined screen protectors for the CM-6M in the next few weeks. As for CBRN hoods, we would suggest getting a MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT, which is a full CBRN suit with an attached hood. We do not have any stand-alone hoods at this time.
Will this protect me from Volcanic Ash? If yes, what's the best way to maintain the filters?
Yes, it will, so long as it's coupled with the right filter. Along with particulates, volcanoes release gases that you would need to take into account when choosing the correct filter. There is no maintenance for filters are they are disposable products.
Will this fit on a 10yr old?
Most likely, it will not. If you are purchasing a mask for adults as well, we would suggest trying one unit on for a group before purchasing additional masks, just to make sure it fits. For children, we have the CM-2M mask.
I understand the current increase in demand for your products and the corresponding increase in lead time. I still wish to receive my order regardless but I figured I would ask this question publically on your form so it will answer anyone else who will likely have the same question. I've noticed the lead times going up. If someone purchases a product while there is a 4-6 week lead time, do you still expect it to be around that time frame for those customers who made that purchase then despite my noticing the lead time being increased subsequent to purchase?
All lead times are estimates based on current order volume and product availability. Generally speaking, the lead time presented at the time of purchase is the estimate for the queue at that specific time and will be shipping sooner than subsequent purchases as the lead time disclaimer changes. Please know, we are doing everything we can to process orders as fast as humanly possible. Thank you for your patience.
I'm a petite 5'1 woman. Will this mask fit me?
If you have a very thin face profile, we would suggest the CM-7M in size 1 as it's smaller.
What is the best method to decontaminate the CM-6M, CM-7M gas masks and hazard suit? What product(s) would you recommend?
Decontamination would depend on the agent you're decontaminating against. For viral threats, we would suggest Allegro 5003-U. As there are many variables to decontamination procedure, we would suggest seeking training before attempting to do it yourself.
For non-CBRN scenarios, can this be used in combination with an adaptor to make use of filters commonly available at hardware stores? For example, using the 3M 701 adapter with lower grade filters when performing less hazardous activities such as woodworking or painting.
You could, but we do not suggest this as adapters are an extra point of possible failure. We have several canisters available, each for different threat levels. If you're looking for a woodworking filter, we have the ParticleMax P3 available, which will protect form particles.
Where do I buy the spectacle kit for the CM-6M mask? How much is this kit? I also would like to check into the adapter for the drinking systems.
You can purchase the 3M Safety 6878 Spectacle Kit on Amazon along with safety stores, with a typical MSRP of around 100USD. For the drinking system CamelBak adapters, we would suggest the CamelBak Chem-Bio Reservoir 4.0, as it comes with both the Type A and Type M adapters and engineered for use in CBRN environments.
Can the mask withstand any hard hits or projectiles or objects, like bean bag ,rubber balls metal balls rock or bad at low or high speed like the sage 400.
Yes, it will. This mask was tested in accordance to European standard EN 168 for impact protection. Along with that, we have done tests outside of a controlled environment where we tried breaking the visor with repeated hits from a Maglite flashlight baton. The CM-6M withstood all impacts with minor scuffing.
I have an IMPORTANT question. I am wondering, is there any chance the mask filters will be infected with Coronavirus due to handling them upon arrival? Or am I 100% safe? It's wearing on my mind since this thing survives on surfaces for a long time.
We can confirm that at this time, no one at MIRA Safety is suspected of having the COVID-19 virus. Each mask is sealed in a bag in the EU and then is transported to the US. From the time it is sealed to the time it makes its way to your door, more than 10 days go by. If you're looking for extra reassurance, I would suggest quarantining all products you purchase for a few days before handling them.
I understand that orders have been delayed because of the coronavirus but is it the same delay to individuals who purchased priority shipping?
Yes, it is the same delay no matter your shipping method. If you choose priority, we will ship via priority once your order comes up in the queue.
Why is the CM-6M mask not NIOSH CBRN certified?Because the CM-6M was only introduced to the US market 1.5 years ago, and the initial launch is geared towards regular citizens and federal employees, which do not require NIOSH to use this product. We are planning on going through NIOSH sometime in 2020. Please note, the CM-6M is certified under EN 136:1998 CL 3, which is the European equivalent of NIOSH.
Do the filters come in sealed packages?
Yes, the NBC-77 SOF filters that you can purchase as an add-on to the CM-6M mask come in a vacuum-sealed pouch.
Are these mask compatible for use with continuous air?
If you mean with a PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) system, which is a blower, yes it is compatible. They are not compatible with SCBA systems.
Can the CM-6M be stored in its original packaging? Or does it need to be removed from the original packaging for storage; so that it does not deform the rubber?
The CM-6M can be stored in original packaging without issue.
What is included in the kit?
The CM-6M comes with a canteen by default. You also have the option to add two NBC-77 SOF filters for a discounted price via the drop-down by the add to cart button.
I have a small beard . Half inch at the longest . Is this a problem ?
Yes, this is a problem as it would be very difficult to create a tight seal with the mask. I would suggest you do a clean shave for the purposes of safety.
Do any of your mask fit over eyeglasses?
The CM-6M is compatible with the 3M 6878 spectacle insert, but none of our masks are compatible with standard glasses.
If I buy the NBC-77 SOF filter cartridges bundled with this mask, do they come pre-attached to the mask or are they capped or sealed separately for later attachment?
They come capped and sealed, not pre-attached. Filters should remain sealed until they are ready for use.
I understand your NBC-77 SOF filters are top of the line filters and filter out most contaminants...but do they also filter the same particles as the PARTICLEMAX P3 VIRUS FILTER?
Yes, they do, as the NBC-77 SOF and ParticleMax P3 share the same exact particle filter.
Do you have plans to start offering PAPRs, that are compatible with your gas masks naturally? And if so when and what price tag may we expect?
Yes, we do, likely middle of 2020. As for price, we do not have those details available yet.
Can you wear glasses with the mask on? Would that compromise the mask's ability?
Standard glasses cannot be worn with a gas mask as it will break the seal. The good news is, there is an aftermarket spectacle insert that is compatible with the CM-6M, and that is the 3M Safety of 6878 Spectacle Kit. We do not sell it on our website, but it can easily be found in other shops across the web.
If the filter was exposed to the Coronavirus, would you have to replace it immediately?
Not immediately. But you would have to decontaminate your equipment before it's removed, and then the filter should be disposed of as it's considered toxic waste after coming in contact with any agents. As mentioned in a previous Q&A, you can use the filter for as long as you can wear the mask.
What are the major differences between the CM-6M and CM-7M gas masks?
The CM-7M is specially designed for use with optics and operating a rifle. Features include a dual recessed visor system for eye relief, along with a contour above the inhalation valve for a closer cheek weld. These features come at the expense of a wide field of view, and this is where the CM-6M shines. Think of the CM-7M and CM-6M as different tools for different jobs.
Does this come with the filter or must that be bought separately?
Filters are sold separately. However, when you add filters via the dropdown on this product page (located right by the add to cart button), the price of each NBC-77 SOF filter is lower than retail.
i purchased 2 of these, they came with canteen and 2 filters. They fit awesome and the field of view is outstanding. Even with one filter i can still breath pretty good and for a claustrophobic that is great. Wear 2 filters and wow big difference. I'm a cold war veteran and was wearing the M45 and then M2CU then just before i retired the M50. So I'm used to wearing them and know how they should fit. They do fit very well good seals and the voice emitter is even better than we had in the military. It comes with a water outlet to fit the canteen so you can drink without taking off your mask. A little heavy with 2 filters and worth it i think, the bag they sell is a little small to fit with 2 filters on the mask. A new larger bag is on the way. I am also looking for Eye wear mask inserts and hope they have them or can direct me to where i can get them. All in All a mask i recommend! You wont go wrong and I'm getting their chem suit. I am very happy to have found these guys, you will be too. The customer service after the sale is the best i have seen in quite a while.
Thank you for the review and picture, Robert! Always here if you have any questions or need assistance.
I purchased the CM-6M about a month ago after doing lots of research and just received it a few days back. Lead time is a bit long, but considering all the craziness going on in the world, totally understandable. Overall, the mask is well made and get's the job done. The features are up there with masks that go for triple the price, so it's an excellent value. Aside from that, I'm a HUGE Christopher Nolan fan and have been waiting patiently for Tenet to release. The new trailer came out yesterday, and I was shocked to see John David Washington wearing the CM-6M mask!! How cool is that?! My tickets are booked for August 31st for the early screening. Very excited to go see the movie "responsibly" while wearing the mask. Others in the theatre should get a kick out of it ;)
I worked in hazmat for many years, and wore a respirator almost daily when I did. So, with that in mind, I was actually quite impressed with this mask (as I could not easily find the style I used to wear on the market for civilians that wasn't crazy expensive.) Love the large field of view, and was very impressed with the speech diaphragm which seems to rival what I remember of my old 3M mask. Also love that it is compatible with camelback bladders (it comes with a canteen, by the way). That's a plus, since a drinking tube is not something I remember having on a work mask before. The only cons I would say, is that I was spoiled on the mesh harness that comes on the Scott 3M masks - those harnesses take a beating and are comfortable, but I'm not going to be wearing this mask every day - so that was an acceptable trade-off. Also, I wish they manufactured this in other sizes, but maybe that will come some day. Their other mask they sell comes in other sizes. If the mask fits you, it's hands-down a winner for a civilian respirator that's within a decent price range. I think I found the 3m mask on northern safety for $100 more and then decided on this one. (Also, I didn't compare israeli masks in my decision, as I only wanted a newly manufactured mask because I wanted something with an unquestionable shelf life. (Divide the price by 20 years and you will see that $11 a year is really very cheap when it comes to having this kind of security on hand in a rapidly changing world.) I live overseas now and we move a lot, so it feels nice to finally have a proper emergency kit in the house.
I’m an Army combat veteran with 4 tours in Iraq, and somewhat of a gas mask collector. Within my collection, I own the following: - MIRA Safety CM-6M - Drager CDR 4500 - Drager X-plore 6300 - 4A1 Israeli Civilian Mask - Israeli Military M15 Mask - Mestel SGE 150 - Mestel SGE 400/3 I originally wrote a version of this review for a Drager mask I purchased and it got a lot of helpful votes, so I figured I’d expand on it and go into detail about the MIRA CM-6M, while giving some background about the other masks I own. Considering the many options, it’s important to know what the mask is intended for, and the level of protection it offers. Keep in mind, the focus of this comparison is for CBRN applications (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear). Also keep in mind, that a gas mask is only one component of CBRN PPE (personal protective equipment). To minimize exposure during a true SHTF scenario, you also need coveralls, gloves, boots, and Chemtape to seal up the seams. Along with that, you would need a decontamination agent such as FAST Act for equipment, and RSDL for skin. -- MIRA Safety CM-6M: PROS *Compliant under EN 136 CL3 standards for respiratory protective devices. *Large visor with a very wide field of view. *Made from butyl rubber which meets material specifications for CBRN protection. *Comes standard with a speech diaphragm. *Comes standard with a pre-installed drinking system and external canteen. *Compatible with CamelBak water bladders. *Fits standard 40mm filter cartridges, which are widely available. *Fits up to 2 filter cartridges simultaneously, increasing the time you can go without changing filters, and making it easier to breathe under physical exertion, or for people with smaller lung capacities (kids). *Used by military in Europe and the Middle East. *Long shelf life of 20 years. CONS *Has a slight rubber smell. In all fairness, all butyl masks that I own also have some rubber smell, just figured I’d mention it just in case someone reading is very sensitive to this. *It’s not NIOSH CBRN Approved so it would limit professional use in the USA (Most government agencies require NIOSH CBRN approval for respiratory devices as part of OSHA standards if using the mask as part of your workplace PPE). Definitely great to have, but having or not having this certification does not determine quality, just means it went through and passed a certain series of tests here in the US. --- Drager CDR 4500: Fantastic all around mask that I have now designated as a preparedness backup after my CM-6M and DHS 7000. The lack of a drinking system made me seek out other options as gas masks get pretty stuffy, and taking off the mask for some water while getting out of dodge may not be an option. Drager X-plore 6300: The structure of this mask is identical to the CDR 4500, with some slight color variation. The major difference is the rubber used for this mask is not NIOSH CBRN approved. However, It does have a NIOSH rating for use against many gases, chemical agents, and particulates. This mask holds an EN 136 CL 2 certification. 4A1 Israeli Civilian Mask: Sold mostly in surplus stores and can be picked up for under $30. Visibility is poor considering the small visors, one for each eye. Many people in Israel have this mask in case of emergency, and I’m sure it’s saved lives over the years, but I would not trust it considering most are surplus and could have been sitting around for 20+ years. This mask is not rated for CBRN purposes. Also, do not use the supplied filter as most are long expired. Israeli Military M15 Mask: Similar specs to the 4A1, but with bigger visors. These do expire (20 yr life), so keep that in mind if purchasing. I’ve owned 5 M15 surplus masks over the years and 3 had damaged valves, leading to a return. These masks are resistant to certain warfare agents, but not the full gamut. I would recommend looking up the spec sheet for more detail. Mestel SGE 150: This mask looks really nice, but is not intended for CBRN purposes of any sort. There is no coating on the visor against chemical irritants, and there is no CBRN certification. Primary use for this would be against tear gas, pepper spray, and riot situations. Mestel SGE 400/3: Same as the SGE 150, but with 3 filter ports instead of one. This mask also has a few optional accessories. Retail is around $200, and can cost upwards of $400 when fully loaded with accessories (speech diaphragm, drinking module, canteen). If you want the extra accessories, you either have to buy it pre-installed, or send it back to the factory for professional installation which could take weeks. This is a great mask to block tear gas if you’re stuck in a riot, but is not intended for CBRN applications.
Peace of mind with updated delivery expectations. Good stuff Mira. Five stars and two thumbs up.
