Description

When it comes to serious disasters and hazmat chemical exposure—the MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT makes NO compromises.

Engineered to be one of the most durable, longest-lasting, and most flexible hazmat suit solutions on the market today, the MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT provides comprehensive protection from a whole universe of CBRN agents and gives you a practical solution for decades to come.

Developed in partnership with Kappler, an international leader in personal protective apparel, the MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT is one of the world’s only disposable hazmat suits offered in a wide variety of sizes—fitting children as young as 4 years old—and it’s available exclusively through MIRA Safety.

Our HAZ-SUIT fabric is made from a durable, puncture-resistant film composite with an excellent barrier to over 125 chemicals, including chemical warfare agents (CWA) and toxic industrial chemicals (TIC).

This military hazmat suit is used extensively by major fire departments for hazmat response, major hospitals for emergency preparedness, major chemical companies for a wide range of potential hazmat exposures, and most US Military branches (Department of Defense, DoD).

The fabric of this hazmat suit has been subjected to a variety of long-term storage conditions and exhibits no degradation in performance over time when stored properly in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. That means it could last for decades or longer without compromising on protection.

The MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT is ideal for demanding hazardous applications with the potential for chemical splash, even in significant exposure scenarios. Increased physical strength and even broader chemical holdout take the protection level of this fabric up a serious notch.

With an extensive chemicals-tested list, the MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT delivers the ultimate in hazmat protection.

Key Features of the MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT

The ONLY Hazmat Suit You’ll Ever Need

Hazmat suits are—unfortunately—one of the most commonly overlooked aspects of disaster preparation.

Because most people focus on full-face respirators, they often overlook the crucial addition of a reliable hazmat suit…or they’ll go with the most basic low-cost alternative on the market. But not all hazmat suits are created equal.

The most common biohazard suits on the market provide limited protection and are intended for use on a job site where users are exposed to a limited range of chemicals and minimal wear and tear. Those entry-level suits are mostly designed for a single day’s use in low-impact environments, so they can easily be disposed of and replaced at a minimal cost.

But when it comes to preparation, you never know exactly what you’ll be facing—a single unexpected puncture to your radiation suit could compromise your health and safety.

That’s why MIRA Safety worked with Kappler to develop a proprietary range of suits that deliver protection above and beyond the common hazmat solution.

Utilizing durable, puncture-resistant fabric (the same as military hazmat suits), we’ve developed a multi-purpose CBRN suit solution that serves as a biohazard suit, radiation protection suit (more on this in the Q&A section), and chemical suit all in one.

It’s the same durable fabric used in some of the most expensive and elite NBC suits on the market today and trusted in the harshest environments by top professionals.

Our HAZ-SUIT is a Level C hazmat suit (when worn with a standard air-purifying respirator or PAPR, it is a Level B hazmat suit when worn with an SCBA system) available in six sizes to comfortably fit every member of your family or group and provide full-body protection from up to 8 hours of direct exposure to some of the deadliest chemical, radioactive (alpha particles), and toxic agents in the world today.

That’s enough time to get yourself and your party to safety without having to worry about unexpected punctures or dangerous exposure. And with its superior tensile strength, you’ll have added protection from punctures in the case of debris or slip-and-fall accidents.

When stored properly, these suits can be trusted to perform for decades without any special maintenance or upkeep (see below).

Our MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT suit makes no compromises when it comes to protecting you from potentially life-threatening CBRN agents—and you shouldn’t have to make any either.

Remember that in addition to a functioning respirator and HAZ-SUIT, you’ll also need reliable gloves, chemtape, and boots to ensure proper protection from airborne contaminants, radiation, and other CBRN threats.

Shelf Life on HAZ-SUIT Chemical Garments

MIRA Safety is not aware of an accepted or universal industry standard for determining the shelf life of hazmat suits or chemical-barrier fabrics. Shelf life is typically based on the expectation of products or materials to degrade or lose effectiveness over a period of time.

When properly stored away from sunlight and in a cool, dry location not subject to temperature extremes, there’s no evidence to indicate that the MIRA Safety HAZ-Suit composite fabric loses any protective characteristics or physical properties over time.

This conclusion is based on HAZ-SUIT fabric naturally aged over twenty years. A coverall using the twenty-year-old HAZ-SUIT fabric was tested against the ASTM F1001 list of twenty-one chemicals with no breakthrough in >480 minutes.

The aged fabric was also tested for its physical properties and still meets manufacturing specifications. Based on this information, MIRA Safety considers the shelf life of its HAZ-SUIT products to be undetermined.

Chemical suits contain components made from various polymer or rubber materials for which there is no shelf life data available. Therefore, the garments may be used as long as they are deemed safe after a visual inspection and, in the case of vapor protective (Level A) garments, after passing the ASTM F1052 pressure test. It is recommended that suits are downgraded to training use only when they no longer pass visual inspection and/or pressure testing.

It is the wearer's responsibility to ensure that all components, including fabric, valves, visors, gloves, zippers, seams, and suit-to-component interfaces, are in good working condition and provide adequate protection for the conditions and chemicals to be encountered. Any suit that does not pass the visual and/or pressure test should be immediately removed from service.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR CHILDREN:

Make sure to keep a close eye on children wearing the HAZ-SUIT. Considering the non-breathable nature of the material (a result of keeping contaminants out), it can get hot while wearing the suit and can cause overheating or dehydration. If your child looks like they are overheating at any time, it is important to evacuate to safety and remove the suit as soon as possible to avoid injury or death. It is up to the guardians of children to determine when wearing the HAZ-SUIT is no longer safe, and guardians accept all responsibility for necessary training.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR GASES AND VAPORS:

Certain gases and vapors absorb through the skin. While the HAZ-SUIT is tested and proven to block these contaminants in liquid form, it is not a sure-fire way to prevent all gases and vapors from entering.

The HAZ-SUIT is designed with an elastic hood, wrists, and ankles. When coupled with hazmat gloves, a gas mask, and hazmat boots, the level of vapors and gases that enter the suit would be limited but not eliminated.

The only tried and true way to block all gases and vapors is with a fully-encapsulated Level A hazmat suit, which would require an SCBA system.

As these systems are costly, they may not be practical for agencies and civilians to stock for emergency preparation. Make sure to read up on skin-absorbing gases and vapors when deciding to purchase any hazmat suit.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • What is it like wearing this suit?

While wearing the HAZ-Suit, make sure to stay hydrated as it can get very hot during the warmer months. This product is intended to keep everything out, including airflow, so please keep this in mind.

  • Does the HAZ-SUIT have room to move in or is it form-fitting?

When you choose the correct size, as per the sizing guide on the product page, there will be room to move around and wear layers of clothing underneath.

  • Does the suit come with a mask, filter, gloves, and boots like in the picture?

This listing is just for the HAZ-Suit. Mask, filter, gloves, and boots are each sold separately.

  • I am 6'0 tall and weigh 130lb, should I get the SM/MD or LG/XL?

If you're in between sizes, we suggest going with one size up to the LG/XL. It's okay if the suit is a bit large on you, but it is a problem if it's too small.

  • Can this suit be used on more than one occasion if thoroughly showered? How is the suit removed after use to prevent infection, etc.?

The HAZ-Suit could be decontaminated and reused so long as you have the proper knowledge of decontamination techniques. Users of this product would be responsible for attaining this knowledge, and training is required to prevent contaminants from getting in. Putting on personal protective equipment is called "donning," and removal is called "doffing."

Both donning and doffing require training in proper procedures as it is a different study of its own. At this time, MIRA Safety does not provide training, but there are institutions you can attend to learn these procedures.

  • Does this suit protect you from radiation?

This suit will protect against alpha and beta radiation, but not gamma. The only thing that can protect against gamma is time, distance, and shielding. However, this fabric is rated to protect against chemical warfare agents.

  • Does this work for coronavirus? Does it comes with mask?

This product listing is just for the suit. So long as the HAZ-Suit is used alongside other protective equipment, and used per best practices, it will protect your skin from coming into contact with viral agents.

  • Hello, I know these suits are not NIOSH approved but are they rated similar to ASTM F1671?

The HAZ-Suit is available in NFPA certified styles, but this product listing is for a non-NFPA certified style. If certification is essential and the HAZ-Suit is going to be used in a professional environment, we can offer it with a minimum order quantity of 120 units. What's the difference? It would essentially be the same product, that underwent the same testing, but the NFPA certified style would have a special part number associated with it. As this certification is expensive to attain, the price of an NFPA certified garment would be higher than the non-certified counterpart. Once again, it's the same product, just a different part number to be compliant.

  • Are the MIRA Safety HAZ-SUIT Protective CBRN HAZMAT Suit washable i.e. reuseable?

All hazmat suits are considered disposable products. For expert users, they may be decontaminated and reused under certain conditions, but for novice users, this is not recommended as improper use can lead to injury or death. Hazmat suits cannot be washed in the same way you wash clothing.

  • How is the suit sealed at the face, wrists, and ankles?

There is an elastic band that helps the suit hug closer to the face, wrists, and ankles. We would suggest coupling this suit with Kappler Chemtape to create a tighter seal, as per hazmat best practices.

  • What is the height for each of the sizes?

Please carefully read through the product description for the complete size guide. Please note that chest and hip measurements are not taken into account when making HAZ-Suits. They're intentionally made to fit baggy. It's sort of a one-size-fits-all kind of product where there's a bit of breathing room inside the suit. They are not meant to fit perfectly into the wearer's actual measurements.

  • Is the HAZ-SUIT safe for children?

Please consider the following when determining if this product is safe for children:
    (1) The HAZ-Suit will raise core body temperature as it blocks airflow. Make sure to check on children frequently as they wear this product to ensure that they are comfortable and of sound body/mind. Also, make sure that the child is properly hydrated before putting the suit on, as most children's masks do not offer hydration systems.
    (2) Donning (putting on) personal protective equipment requires training. It is the responsibility of the child's legal guardian to acquire the training necessary to use any products listed on the MIRA Safety website.
    (3) This hazmat suit is not a toy, and children must be closely monitored while wearing the suit. DO NOT leave your child alone with the suit, or allow them to use it outside of adult supervision.
    (4) Communicate with your child continuously as they don any products on the MIRA Safety website, including the HAZ-Suit, to make sure that they are comfortable.
    (5) You should fit your child for the HAZ-Suit to make sure the size is appropriate. It is also important to train with this product beforehand to ensure that users get an understanding of how it feels to wear this product over time. If you have any questions about product safety, please email us at support@mirasafety.com before using the HAZ-Suit, or any other product listed on the MIRA Safety website.

  • What grade level would you give this hazmat suit from levels A to D biohazard level?

The HAZ-Suit is considered a Level B hazmat suit. Level A would require full encapsulation and the use of an SCBA system (oxygen tank).

  • Do you have any plans on releasing an upgraded version with integrated "socks" for better protection and maybe double sleeves too? Thanks.

Yes, we do have an upgraded version planned for the future. Feel free to sign up for our newsletters to get periodic updates on upcoming products. Stay tuned!

  • So for the gloves and boots you will be releasing, do you plan on doing dipped or molded construction, and I know you said soon, but is there an estimated release date?

We've recently launched our own line of gloves to pair with the suit (click here for the link to the HAZ-Gloves). It has been proven to provide more than 150 minutes of protection from corrosive CBRN threats. Please carefully read through the product description for specific lead times.

The boots, however, is still under development and we currently don't have an estimate for when it'll be available. Feel free to sign up for our newsletters to get periodic updates on upcoming products.
