Technical Specification

We’re exposed to background radiation every day of our lives. And while some level of radiation is natural, higher concentrations can be the result of poorly shielded electronic equipment, X-rays, CT scans or even air travel.

Beyond the substantial threat of nuclear meltdowns, disasters and fallout, this excess background radiation can add up over the years and contribute to substantial health issues.

Fortunately, there’s now a practical solution you can take everywhere to monitor and measure your exposure—the MIRA Safety Geiger-1 radiation detector.

Only slightly larger than a ballpoint pen, the Geiger-1 is a fully-featured handheld dosimeter that offers the same reliability as a professional-grade Geiger counter at a fraction of the price and without the bulky size. It’s built from an impact-resistant polymer with an easy-to-read LCD screen and two buttons, making it one of the simplest and most user-friendly dosimeters on the market today.

With a customizable radiation threshold, tone and light settings, it’s easy to personalize but designed for practical use right out of the box. At the press of a button, you can read either background radiation or the device’s accumulated dose.

Best of all, the Geiger-1 Geiger counter tucks easily into a pocket, purse or backpack so it will always be ready when you need it—providing you with a potentially life-saving tool that makes you more aware of your environment and ready to face a range of twenty-first century threats. The first step toward protecting yourself from background radiation is identifying it with a reliable radiation meter.

The Geiger-1 uses two LR44 alkaline button (watch) batteries, making it easy and affordable to operate for every member of your family. Battery changes take just a few seconds before you’re back on the go.

The Geiger-1 Geiger counter is one of the most revolutionary dosimeters on the market today, a perfect choice for anyone who lives within 2-300 miles of a nuclear power plant or anyone who’d feel more comfortable with an added layer of protection for your loved ones.

It’s a perfect addition for bug-out bags and disaster prep, since it’s compact, reliable, durable, and it runs on batteries that are long-lasting and easy to find.

So, grab a Geiger-1 dosimeter / Geiger counter and start learning more about your environment today!

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Arrow shows 8:88 than -22 What does it mean? Is it a battery issue? Can you email me pdf of the manual? Or photo of it. Also do you have a table that explains readings: which number is normal, bad, and very bad.

You can view the multilingual user manual with all information needed via the link below:
    https://intersoeks.com/image/catalog/products/112/SOEKS_112_INSTR_ENG_010719_curv.pdf

  • Can this product read radon gas?

No, this dosimeter only measures beta-gamma and roentgen radiation.

  • Are The SBM-20 Geiger-Muller tubes user replaceable?

In this specific model, the plastic case contains components that may break when opened. We recommend doing this only with the help of a professional.

  • Read everything on you website and directions that came with Geiger Counter. Directions say you can set the threshold as high as 100 but; appears only to go to 9.99 at the most? It says on your website an alarm should be triggered at .30. I purchased a Geiger Counter Test Card from United Nuclear. I got a reading of 5.01 from test card but; heard no alarm?

You would need to reset the settings.

  • Does it detect 5G or 4G radiation?

No, this dosimeter does not detect radiofrequency radiation.

  • What is the maximum Microsieverts uSv/hour detection rating for this Geiger counter?

The maximum Microsieverts uSv/hour detection rating for this Geiger counter is 0.1 – 999 uSv/h.

  • Does this device itself contain any radioactive or toxic hazardous materials that may present a hazard especially if it somehow damaged or broken?

No, this dosimeter contains an SBM 20-1 Geiger counter and does not contain any radioactive materials.

  • Is this dosimeter EMP proofed, or at least still functional at about 10 miles from a ground zero nuclear explosion?

    This device is not EMP-proof.

  • Will it detect radiation from a cell phone tower?

It depends. Some of the towers may produce brief bursts of nuclear radiation which can be detected by the Geiger.

  • Will this read radiation from a UV light?

The type of radiation that the Geiger picks up is ionizing radiation, so it doesn't detect radiation from UV light.

  • Does it come with information about what levels of radiation are dangerous?

No, it does not. There are many resources on the internet that will let you know which levels are dangerous. We will be posting a blog in the near future to go through this in detail.

  • If my neighbour has a thermo-nuclear bomb hidden in his car in the garage wrapped in lead will it still emit radiation capable of being detected?

There are many variables to consider here, including the thickness of the lead, how stable the material is, etc. I would consult with a nuclear engineer for this question.

  • What units of measurement does the Geiger-1 Radiation Detector use?

The Geiger-1 Radiation Detector measures in micro-sieverts per hour (μSv/h).

  • What is the length of the device?

    It's about 4.75 inches.

  • Can the units of measurement be changed?

    No, they cannot.

  • Can there be different alarm levels that can be programmed?

You can program one alarm level at a time.

  • Where are these made?

    In the Russian Federation.

  • Not being familiar with these devices, does it need to be calibrated at all, and does it have a functional life span?

No, it does not need to be calibrated. There is no exact functional life span, it will last a long time so long as it's taken care of.

MIRA's excellent customer service

Although I hadn't received the identified material due to COVID related supply chain issues, MIRA's excellent customer service, by responding to a previous review, provided a prompt and full refund once they were made aware of the issue. Thanks, and I will be using this site again.

Quality products

Living near a freeway where hazmat is likely transported on, also in a State with nuclear reactors, as low as the probability may or may not be, it is better to have tools I never use than to need a tool in a pinch. Never had to deploy one, but I have fire extinguishers for the same reasons and smoke alarms for early warning. So why wouldn’t I want a dosimeter as a safety measure? Turned out not long after receiving it, i was able to use it for peace of mind. A mystery package was delivered to my address wrongfully and not knowing the contents it could have been anything. It took the carrier 46 hours to retrieve it. I had to sleep all night in a house next to a mystery box, and who knew if it was safe to even move. Good news is, I knew the contents were not raising the level of background radiation, all because a relatively inexpensive device I had for an emergency. Thanks for making this product available!

Good stuff...

Noticed it on sale, could not beat the price and glad to now have one. Bought some test items and yep, it works. MIRA is real gear at fair prices, highly recommended.
